SENTENCE of PENAL SERVITUDE against HERBERT EDWIN QUINTAIN Date of Conviction: 18th March 1912 Crime: Fraud, Theft & Theft by & (illegible handwriting) Sentence: Penal Servitude ------------------------------- In the High Court of Justiciary, held at Edinburgh on the eighteenth day of March One thousand Nine Hundred and Twelve years, before The Honourable Lord Salvesen. Intran. Herbert Edwin Quintain Prisoner in the Prison of Glasgow Pannel: INDICTED at the instance of His Majesty’s Advocate on the charges following, visit: 3 charges of fraud – obtaining board and lodgings by means of false pretences to the value in all of 4/6d; 4 charges of theft, 1 of them by forcing open a lockfast chest, of jewellery etc and in all £1.14s.9d of money; and previous conviction of theft and fraud as particularly mentioned in the Indictment raised thereanent; In respect the Pannel having at Glasgow pleaded guilty as libelled, he was remitted by the Sheriff to the High Court of Justiciary for sentence and the Convictions against the Pannel mentioned in the Schedule hereto appended having been admitted in evidence, the Court Sentenced, Decerned, and Adjudged, and hereby Sentences, Decerns and Adjudges, the said Pannel to be kept in Penal servitude for Five years from this date; and that under the provisions and subject to the control enacted by the 20th and 21st of Queen Victoria, chapter 3: Meantime Ordained, and hereby Ordains, the Pannel to be carried to and detained in the Prison of Edinburgh Extracted by me, Assistant Clerk of Justiciary Thomas S. Stewarts Rear of Document Schedule referred to:- Date of Conviction: 3rd January 1907 Court and Place: Gen. Qr. Sessions Carnarvon (as Herbert Edwin Quainton alias Herbert Beckett) Crime & Sentence: Theft/ 3 Months imprisoned H.L Date of Conviction: 24th April 1907 Court and Place: J.P Summy Court, Darlington (as Thomas Sinkinson) Crime & Sentence: Theft/ 3 Months imprisoned H.L Date of Conviction: 3rd January 1908 Court and Place: Gen. Qr. Sessions, Lincoln (as Herbert Edwin Quainton, alas Herbert Beckett) Crime & Sentence: 5 years penal servitude to run concurrently with a like sentence of 5 yrs.
