- TitleLetter from Reverend Charles Edward Searle to Mrs Askew [Isabel Julia Askew nee Curtis]. Sent from Pembroke College Cambridge
- Date free text9 August 1880
- Production dateFrom: 1880 To: 1880
- Scope and ContentHas only jsut received Mrs Askew's letter. Is very sorry to hear of her husband's [George Thomas Askew] illness which no doubt the failure of his business will have increased. Understands her annoyance about the power of attorney. It has worried him a little and in reply to Mr Thomas Harris, who has written asking for another, he has written today that he shall not send him one. The most he expected to pay was £1 but his solicitor in Cambridge insisted it could not be done without stamped documents. Does not wish for Mrs Askew to repay this £5 to him, but to receive the 99 dollars in full. Told her long ago that he would never make any demand for his claim. P.S Mrs Askew only provided the inital letter of Mr Cowper's Christian name. The lawyer in England particularly objected to putting Mr J.C but looked over her letter in vain for any further information. Has just written to Mr Harris
