- Scope and ContentAdvises George to accept the position offered to him to be a representative of the district in the local legislature. Is happy to loan George a further £100. Regrets to hear the his brother [Walter Searle] and George could not come to terms about ship spars. Went to Odell for five weeks in June and July and gave Mr Hunt [William Cornish Hunt] a holiday and occupied the Rectory with his mother and sister. Poor aunt Beckie, as the washerwoman was called, had died. George's aunt Sarah was much out of health and George's uncle William had a new child. Visited George's aunt Cockings of Carlton and her children are doing well. Charles Askew, the father of George in the US dies suddenly lately of a paralytic stroke. George's father is doing well. George's niece is a nice child but is being kept from school on the plea that her family [Fosket] cannot afford to lose the small amount she makes from lace. The father [Richard Fosket] continues to ignore her but heard a rumour he may marry again. Congratulates George on the birth of his daughter.
