  • Scope and Content
Congratulates George on his marriage [to Isabel Julia Curtis] and has let George's friends and family know of this news. Saw George's uncle, Charles Askew, on his last visit to Odell and George's niece who is ignored by her father [Richard Fosket]. The village looked good and the worst cottages have been pulled down and others repaired. £400-500 has been spent upon the Church. All of the Misses Turney expect one are now married. Knows Newport Pagnell well [Isabel Julia Askew nee Curtis had family ties to Newport Pagnell] and occasionally visits Willen. Began his clerical life close to Newport at Broughton and went from there to Odell. If he has a change he will call upon Mr Curtis [possibly a relation of Isabel Julia Askew nee Curtis] in London in Bishopsgate Street. In Stonham, he [Charles] is reaping the result of a benefactor named Reeve, a farmer, who in the time of Queen Elizabeth left land for a schoolmaster's salary which brings in £40 a year. It is now invaluable and the school would not exist without it.
