Hope to stay a few days in Florence and one day in Milan, but have not yet got a hotel in Florence. Have spent the last two days trying to arrange things. 3 March. Describes view of Mount Vesuvius from Hotel. Hope to stay 4 days at Anacapri, but not yet arranged a hotel. Hope to go to the opera on Tuesday 6th unless the date is altered due t the death of General [Armando] Diaz. He was buried today, and all the flags are at half mast. Did not see any of the ceremony as spent the day at Pompeii. Hope to go to the art museum tomorrow and up Mount Vesuvius on Monday
