- TitleIncomple letter, first page missing, from Reverend Charles Edward Searle to George Thomas Askew. Believed to have been sent from Earl Stonham Rectory, Suffolk
- Date free textundated c. Summer 1865
- Production dateFrom: 1865 To: 1865
- Scope and ContentExpects that the death of George's sister [Kitty] will most likely disrupt the plans for George's family to emigrate. Believes that George's mother [Mary Askew] and father [James Askew] would dislike a colony and are of an age where they cannot easily adapt to a new life. Had hoped that the voyage would have stabilised Kitty's health. The altered circumstances have changed his opinions on strongly encouraging George's family to emigrate. Has three servants from Odell working at his home in Suffolk - Fennell's daughter and William Goodman's two daughters. Generally hears good news from George Odell in New Zealand but has heard nothing from George Askew for a long time 'I never liked his being in the States, and now more than ever I anticipate confusion after the horrible murder of the President.'
