- Scope and ContentHad a sermon on Sunday from a church missionary to China L. Lloyd. He and Rev Beech came to tea and were very lively. Reference to luncheon party Hugh hosted; hopes Hugh reveived compliments from the Salisbury bishop. Worries that Hugh is over-working. Hopes Hugh had got another kitchen maid. Comments about Maude. Went to Bedford last Saturday about taxes, and hope to get them reduced - wangled with the surveyor's head clerk for over an hour. Took a bus to Kempston, had a walk by the river and called on the vicar, Rev Shorting. Next week hope to have the loan of Mr Allen's car to call on the Orlebars at Podington and the Girlings at Souldrop. The Orlebars are third cousins of Hugh.
