Merryweather (Manyweathers) v Payne, I enclose Recognizance entered into by the Appellant & his Surety

5b) Recognizance; Cyril Manyweathers of Offa Road Bedford, acknowledges himself to be indebted to our sovereign Lord the King in the sum of Fifty pounds & Arthur Manyweathers of Offa Road Bedford acknowledges himself to be indebted to our sovereign Lord the Kingin the sum of fifty pounds.
Wheras by an order inder the hands & seals of Henry Martin Lindsell & Rupert Oswald Fordham assembled at a petty session of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of Bedford holden in % for the Division of Biggleswade. At Bigglesade on 28th January 1920, the said Cyril Manyweathers was adjudged to be the putative father of a bastard child, of which one Florrie Payne had been delivered, & was ordered to pay her certain sums of money therein set forth: & whereas the said Cyril Manyweathers hath given to the said Florrie Payne notice of his intention to appeal against the said order to the general quarter session of the peace to be holden at Bedford in & for the County of Bedford. Now the condition of this recognizance is such, that if the above named Cyril Manyweathers do appear at the Quarter Sessions held in Bedford & then & there try such appeal, & pay such costs as shall be by the said court awarded, then this recognizance to be void.
Taken & acknowledged this 5th February 1920 at Biggleswade in the county of Bedford before me the undersigned, one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said County.

Dear Sir, I enclose you a copy of notice of appeal in the above case which kindly enter for the April Session

5d) In the County of Bedford; Petty Sessional Division of Biggleswade.
To the clerk of the Court of Summary Jurisdiction sitting at Biggleswade in the said County & to Florrie Payne of Potton, Spinster.
Take Notice that I Hutchinson William Lathom of Luton, Solicitor & Agent for Cyril Manyweathers of 9 Offa Road Bedford , draughtsman, do intend at the next General Quarter Session of the Peace to be holden in Bedford to appeal against a certain order made against the said Cyril Manyweathers by the Court of Summary Jurisdiction sitting at Biggleswade on 20th January 1920 whereby he was adjudged to be the putativefather of a bastard child of wich you the said Florrie Payne are the mother & that the cause & matter of such appeal are that;
1) The said Cyril Manyweathers denies that he is the father of said child
2) The decision of the said Court of Summary jurisdiction was against the weight of evidence.
3) There was not sufficient corroboration of a material particular to justify the order made
