Take notice that I, Hutchinson William Lathom of Luton, Solicitor & agent for Leonard Williams of 27 Hitchin Road Luton, do intend at the next practicable General Quarter Sessions of the Peace to be holden in Bedford, to appeal against a certain conviction made against him the said Leonard Williams by the Court of Smmary Jurisdiction sitting at Luton. For that he on 21st March 1919 in Luton did feloniously receive form Aubrey Smith a fowl of the value of 9 shillings the property of George Rosson, which had lately been feloniously stolen. He Leonard Williams then knowing the same to be stolen contrary to the statute in such a case made & provided & the general grounds of such appeal are; 1) That he is not guilty of the offence 2) That the evidence on which he was convicted was unreliable & was the uncorroborated evidence of accomplices 3) That the term of 3 months imprisonment or any other term should not have been imposed on him. 4) That the case wasone which did not justify, even if the said Leonard Williams had been guilty, the said sentence, but that the Magistrates should have considered the Probation of Offenders Acts. 5) Alternatively that the Justice of the case could have benn met by a fine. All of which presents you & each of you are hereby desired to take notice. Dated 1st April 1919 H W Lathom 10 King Street Luton, Solicitor & Agent for the said Leonard Williams
