  • Scope and Content
There has been a great deal of wind; unusual in the area. Have divvied the furniture round and got some damaged and some abolished; put up pictures and nearly everything unpacked. Agitating for a bookcasewhich is greatly needed. On the evening of the day of arrival in Arosa, writer went to the Alexandra to see Raverty. He was just up after a long spell in bed and less wel than went he left at the end of last winter, owing to a bad summer in England. The brakesman and the steersman of the bobsleigh both asked the writer to be a member of their crew this year; does not think he will, as he does not like the men enough. At present Kenneth and the writer are the only people in the hotel who speak English. Boguslawski is in Davos and came to visit Kenneth. Went to the Eden Hotel to see Captain Moore, who has abandoned the Valsana Hotel. He was better than the writer had expected. Went to Mrs Morland's tea on Friday afternoon. Made the acquaintance of the doctor who has come to help Dr Morland with his sanatorium. Also met a man called Wright who is a skater and NSA judge and has agreed to coach the writer. His sister also skates. He 'came and put me through my paces and gave me hints on Saturday...' Has had a letter from Bazeley who has been appointed vice principal of Salisbury Theological College. The choir here has not yet started, but the organist of last year is coming out soon and the chaplain has managed tocollect money for a better organ. Has been asked to take part in some theatricals it is proposed to hold about Christmas time; not keen but probably unable to aviod it. The anthem last week went very well. Reference to the engagement of Maurice and Millicent. Have got in a stock of fireworks for New Years Eve. General comments regarding family and things from mother's letter. Comments about books; recommends novels by E F Benson. Mrs Dows left New York on December 1st, and is now in London; asks mothr t get the Army and Navy Stores to send her tins of smoking mixture. She is expected at Davos around the 15th. Her cousin, James Watt arrives on the 27th Enclosed; 2 photographs for writer on a horse, dated 28 November 1909
