  • Scope and Content
Has not received a letter from home and hopes all is well, and that it is not influenza and illnes that has prevented writing. Has received the communication forwarded from the Oxford Appointments Committee and is giving it thought. Thinks he will write, but history is not the writer's subject, and it seems obvious that a history man is wanted. Mrs Dows departed last Sunday and is now in England. Nurse Cuzer arrived on Saturday. Writer now has lunch and dinner upstairs with Kenneth [Dows?], and breakfast downstairs. Mrs Allhusen's son has overdone himself tobogganing lately, and is in bed with a persistant temperature. Miss Fitzgibbon and the Raverty's left on Tuesday for Cadenabbia [Italian lakes]. Have seen and heard huge avalanches on the opposite side of the valley. Last Thursday went to the Alexandra after dinner - most pleasant evening. The thaw has made walking about a labour; the runners have at last given way to wheels. Date of departure has been put forward to next Monday. Describes proposed journey. Yesterday went to Doctor Morland's and was permitted to watch him work in his laboratory. He has taken specimens of the writer's blood to test. The process of testing was extremely interesting. Freeman and Shepard left today. Toboggan races. Engagement of Count Count Thorotzkal and Miss Boguslawski. Mrs Cuzer brought a dog out with her; a boston terrier 'of a particularly ugly type of countenance.' Details of french lessons.
