  • Scope and Content
Sorry to hear about the mumps. Pembroke was bumped by New College II. New College I has gone down another place so that only two boats are left between the two New College torpids, and the second ought to bump Baliol tomorrow. Further information about the progress of the bumps races [Bumps is the traditional racing format in Oxford and Cambridge university rowing. Crews race line astern starting 1.5 lengths apart. The aim is to "bump" the crew ahead of you without being caught by the crew behind. If you bump, your race is over and you swap places with the bumped crew in the next race of the day. If you get bumped you keep racing] On Friday evening had 'fizz' in Hall, and last night the Dean invited the Torpid for wine in his room. 'Bengy gave Greenfield rather a warm time ..... which shows ... that greenfield's work was less god than it should have been.' Went for a walk with Wright, a maths scholar. Climbed the tower at Eynsham church. Set off about 10.30 and got back at 3.00, after getting caught in the rain. Is writing about the Goldsmith's etc. It has been announced in the Oxford Magazine that no application will be considered after March 15. Stewart is entering too. Reference to the village cross at Eynsham.
