Manuscript volume with text neatly written within text boxes outlined in red. In the edition published by the Bedfordshire Historical Record Society in 1980 the editor, Alan Cirket, explains that there are some errors and blanks in this fair text. Fine binding by Stephen Austin of Hertford in maroon leather over raised bands and with heavy boards. Gold line decoration to either side of the raised bands and around the front and back boards; decorative roll in gold to edge of boards and to squares. Title tooled in centre of front board. Gilt edges. Red and green endbands. The text is written as a letter to 'My dear Anne' dated April 1846 'You request me to give you a detailed account of every thing connected with my building of Wrest, and it's dependencies; with the reasons which induced me to adopt such and such things, or to do one thing instead of another; with in fact, all the twaddle and tedium necessarily connected with such a long winded matter - You are little aware of what you must be prepared to encounter; and how many tedious recitals of the various visits to the Mr White's and Mr Brown's who possessed old Carvings, or other things you must wade through; However, as you need never read it more than once and as you need not tell any one whether you were bored or not, here goes!'
