Bedfordshire Federation of Women’s Institutes Jubilee Scrapbook Competition. Copy of press release sent to County Archivist as well as the press in regard to the Bedfordshire entries to the national competition. Includes list of the 59 institutes that entered the competition. Although the record office was not directly involved the institutes were encouraged to deposit their scrapbooks with the record office. Those scrapbooks that were deposited are under reference X351.

File of papers regarding the competition, which was sponsored by The Bedfordshire Times; the County Federation of Women’s Institutes, the Parish Councils’ Association and the Rural Community Council. The idea was based on a competition that had recently been run in Northamptonshire. The scrapbooks were to ‘deal with the village from 1800 to the present day, with its buildings, roads, fields, farms and families, railway or river. It was ‘strongly urged that some scrapbooks should be deposited in the County Record Office’ – those that were deposited are under reference X535. Includes: guidance for competitors, press cuttings, invitation to view the entries, judges remarks.
