    Settlement of the manor, advowson and estate of Little Barford County Bedford on the marriage of Reverend John Alington with Miss Eliza Frances Plumer Parties: (i) Rev John Alington, Rector of Little Barford, eldest son of Rev William Alington of Twywell [Northamptonshire] by Sarah, his wife, deceased, she being eldest daughter of (iii) of Baldock [Hertfordshire], esquire; ii) Eliza Frances Plumer, second daughter of Sir Thomas Plumer, Master of the Rolls; (iii) John Williamson; (iv) Thomas Hall Plumer, esquire, eldest son of Sir Thomas Plumer and an examiner in Chancery; Rev Charles Atmore Ogilvie MA, fellow of Balliol College, Oxford; (v) William Turton, esquire, one of the six clerks in Chancery; (vi) John Jenkins of Red Lyon Square [Middlesex]. Gentleman Reciting: - a marriage had been agreed between (i) and (ii); -by indenture of even date [AN29/87] in which £10,000 in 3% reduced bank annuities was settled; - it was agreed that (iii), to make further provision for his grandson (i) and to secure a jointure for (ii) should convey estates as follows: Operative Part: - each of (iv) paid 10/- to (iii); - (vi) paid 10/- to (iii); - (iii) released (a)-(k) to (iv) Property: (a) Manor of Little Berkeford; (b) advowson of Little Barford; (c) free fishing in the River Great Ouse at Little Barford, Eaton Socon and Tempsford; (d) site of the Manor of Little Berkeford; (e) farmhouse and 271 acres, 2 froods, 9 perches formerly in the occupation of William Emery; (f) farmhouse with 266 acres, 1 rood, 5 perches formerly in the occupation of John Peck; (g) farmhouse with 267 acres, 7 perches formerly in the occupation of Edward Peck; (h) tithes from 81 acres of meadow, part of (e)-(g) which all adjoined and were bounded: N by meadow of Henry Tingey; W and SW by River Great Ouse; (i) cottages formerly in the occupation of Edward Emery, John Selby, William Landon, Lewis, William Beby, Edward Wells, John Darlow, Richard Emery, George Pell, Thomas Peck and Martin Crowcher, now of Thomas Peck, John Living, John Waters, John Darlow, Richard Baldock, Dame Hodgson, Thomas Mays, William Brightman, John Green, John Andrews, David Toseland, Martin Crutchley and the overseers of the poor of Little Barford (a)-(i), apart from about 10 acres in a plantation and some land reserved for an intended plantation, were formerly in the occupation of William Wasse and Thomas Wilson by a lease of 27 June 1785 for 21 years by Richard Marriott for rent of £570 (j) quitrent of 13/4 issuing out of lands of Thomas Tingey, now Henry Tingey in Little Barford; (k) quitrent of 2/4 issuing out of lands late of Ashcombe now of Henry Adams in Little Barford and Eynesbury [Huntingdonshire] a)-(k) in Little Barford, Eaton Socon, Tempsford, and Eynesbury purchased by (iii) from John Casper Hartsinck, Julius Hutchinson and William Playfair Habendum: - to (iv) to the use of (iii) until the marriage; - to the use of (i) for his life; - to the use of (v) during the life of (i) in trust to preserve contingent remainders allowing (i) to take rents and profits; after the death of (i) allowing (ii) to take an annuity of £600 from (a)-(k) as her jointure in lieu of dower, freebench and thirds given by common law with powers of distraint; - to the use of (vi) for 99 years from the decease of (i) to the use of the first son of (i) and (ii), in default to the use of the second son, in default to the use of each son in turn, in default to the use of all daughters equally as tenants in common, in default of issue to the use of (i) for ever; the period of 99 years being upon trust to better secure the annuity of £600 for (ii) and to determine on the death of (ii); Release on Reverse: Parties: (i) John Alington, Lincoln Inns Field (ii) Samuel Steward of the County of Middlesex, Gentleman (iii) Reverend Charles Atmore Ogilvie and Thomas Hall Plumer (iv) Royston and Hitchin Railway Company (v) Great Northern Railway Company Reciting: -marriage of John Alington and Eliza Frances Plumer who had eight children: John (who died 23 December 1845 under 21); William, now eldest son and six younger children. - will of John Williamson who settled manor and estate of Little Barford in the County of Bedfordshire and advowson on grandson John Alington - death of John Williamson in 1830, will proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury 26th July 1830 - Eliza Frances Alington died in June 1838 leaving her husband, (i), surviving her; - deed poll bearing the date [left blank] 1850, under the hand of (i) and (iii) in consideration of the sum of £2180 13s to (iii) by (iv) for 11 acres and 9 poles of land in the parish of Bygrave being part of the hereditatments of John Williamson and authorised to be taken for the railway company - (iii) invested the sum of £2242 6s 3d in the Books of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England - (v)in 1847 agreed with (iii) the purchase of 15 acres, 2 roods, 20 perches situate in Little Barford which formed part of the marriage settlement for the consideration of £3500 by deed on 19th November 1851 between (i) (iii) and (v) - indenture was executed by (i) and (iii), but indenture not delivered to (v) nor did the purchase occur - Thomas Hall Plumer died 24th December 1852. Operative Part: - (i) nominates and approved Reverend George Yalden, Rector of Twywell as new trustee - Charles Atmore Ogilvie at the request of (1) granted, released and confirmed to (ii) the manor, advowson, messuages, tenements, farms tithes or commute rent charges except such parts that were sold to (iv) Habendum - To the use upon trust as described in marriage settlement and will of John Williamson. - Charles Atmore Ogilvie: Consideration: - £2242 6s 3d 3% consolidated annuities transferred to the names of Charles Atmore Ogilvie and George Yalden in the Books of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England. -£3500 received from (v) and invested in purchase of the further sum of £3456 14s 9d 3% consolidated annuities transferred to the names of Charles Atmore Ogilvie and George Yalden in the Books of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England. Together with the sum of £2242 6s 3d to a total sum £5699 1s 3% consolidated annuities Witnesses: Thomas Widdows, Clerk to Messr. Hawkins & Co Thomas Hawkins, 60 St Giles Street, Oxford Edward Sylvester, 44 St John’s Street, Oxford 2nd indenture on reverse dated 27 April 1853: Parties: (i) Samuel Steward of Lincolns Inn Fields in the County of Middlesex, Gentleman (ii) John Alington (iii) Charles Atmore Ogilvie, now the Reverend Doctor Ogilvie, a Canon of the Cathedral Church of Christ, Oxford, and Reverend George Yalden, Rector of Twywell in the County of Northampton. Operative Parts: In pursuance of the trust vested in (i) the said (i) at the request and direction of (ii) granted and confirmed to (iii) all and singular the manor, advowson, messuages, lands and tenements and other hereditaments mentioned in the settlement and will of John Williamson Habendum: The said manor etc. are granted and confirmed with their rights, royalties and appurtenances to (iii) to the same uses upon the same trusts and subject to the powers provisions, declarations and agreements in the settlement and will of John Williamson Covenant (i)covenant and declared to and with (iii) that (i) has not at any time made done or been privy to any deed matter whereof the said manor, and are expressed to be granted and confirmed can shall or may be conveyed assessed, impeached or charged.
