    County of Bedford to Wit. George Collins stands charged before the undersigned One of His Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for the County of Bedford this 22nd day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and eleven for that he the said George Collins on the 18th day of July 1911 at (a) Shefford in the said County feloniously did break and enter the counting house of the Midland Railway Company there situate and therein feloniously did steal a bicycle the good and chattels of the said Midland Railway Company contrary to the form of the Statute in such case made and provided. And the said Charge being read to the said George Collins and the Witnesses for the Prosecution, George William Wearn, Benjamin Revel, William Lewis and George Millard being severally Examined in his presence, the said George Collins is now addressed by me as follows:- “Having heard the Evidence, do you wish to say anything in answer to the Charge? You are not “obliged to say anything unless you desire to do so; but whatever you say will be taken down in “writing, and may be given in Evidence against you upon your trial. And you are clearly to “understand that you have nothing to hope from any Promise of Favour, and nothing to fear from “any Threat which may have been holden out to you to induce you to make any admission or “confession of your guilt, but that whatever you shall now say may be given in Evidence against you “upon your trial, notwithstanding such Promise or Threat” Whereupon the said George Collins saith as follows (b):- I felt rather hungry. I found there was no train to London so I went and did that. I am sorry I done it, and for the sake of the trouble I have given other people. I was looking for a job and could not find one. Signed G.
