  • Scope and Content
Banbury Knap commences in Lower End Road Totternhoe at the point marked "A" on the plan & continues in an easterly direction across the Drovers Way until it joins the Main Road in Middle End at the point marked "B". The diversion might follow from point "C", to "E" on the plan. At point "F" it joins Drovers Way, the whole being of the length of 481 yards. The proposed new section passes through the property of Aldebert Wellington Brownlow & Arthur & Gertrude Turidell. This has been discussed at variour Parish Council meetings in February, March and April 1912 and it was agreed to post the various public notices at the appropriate places & in the newspapers published & generally circlated in the County of Bedford. Proof has been given to the satisfaction of the justices as well as evidence and depositions in writing upon the oaths of Benjamin Belgrove Franklin, Arthur Crichton Stuart Benning and Rupert Henry Ebenezer Matthews, the plans have been verified to and before us the sai d justices by the evidence upon the oath of Benjamin Franklin a competent surveyor. Now we the undersigned George Oakley and George Warren (justices) do hereby certify that the new highway will be more commodious and instead of running along the edge of a quarry upwards of 100 feet in depth it will now run 400 feet away from the said quarry and the new highway will be 30 feet width in place of the present one at 20 feet and that the old highway from "C" to "D" on the plan will be unnecessary & may be properly diverted & stopped up. Given under our hands in the Luton Petty Sessional Divison of the County within which the Parish of Totternhoe is situated this 28th May of May 1912. Signed George Oakley, George Warren
