Notes on the Monk family, one of whom, William obtained the living of Wymington in 1864, settling there with brother Henry who was to farm the glebe, and sister Mary Elizabeth. William raised cash through mortgages on the glebe and apparently tried unsuccessfully to extract mineral deposits, and then commissioned work to drain the glebe which was completed but the bill never paid. The Monks left in 1885 and eventually, when William died the church at Wymington was saddled with debts amounting to £2,300 which was not cleared until 1900. Includes letter to the editor of Bedfordshire Mercury 1 January 1887 regarding the scandal and a cutting from Bedfordshire Times 15 June 1900 about the eventual clearing of the debt.
