Andrew Underwood was licensed as a diocesan reader by the Rt Revd A John Trillo, Bishop of Bedford on 7th June 1964. A note at the beginning of this register states that the first service he ever took was a week day evensong at Ampthill on 24 November 1951. His first evensong at Steppingley was on 12 Nov 1961 when the reader failed to turn up. He also played the organ.
