Title
Notes on Sandy Park House and Mill Lane (bridleway from Swan Lane to Sandy Mill on the river Ivel - diverted 1811).
In 1799 the house was owned by Sir Philip Monoux as part of the Sandy Place Estate. By 1811 the estate had passed to Hon. Samuel Henley Ongley, Monoux's son-in-law. At this time the Sandy Park House site and surrounding land seems to have gone with the mill and was tenanted by William Dobson. In 1851 the whole estate was put up for auction but failed to sell and was broken into numerous lots for sale in 1853. Sandy Park House appears to have been included in Lot 2 with the Mill and was stated as being occupied by Messrs Pope as yearly tenants. It appears to have been bought by the tenants Mrs Ellen Pope widow of Charles Pope and Charles George Pope his son at the sale and in 1910 it was sold to James Mathews who lived there till his death in the 1930s.
