- Scope and Content“I am very sorry to hear that dear Sarah [Hooper, wife of Thomas] has been poorly but hope the change to Brighton will do her good; I suppose Carrie is with her or she will feel very dull while you are away from her. I did not receive your letter till Tuesday and went immediately to Newport; I waited to see Slade for more than two hours, and he said he could not attend to it at that moment, but would be sure to post all particulars that evening, and I hope he did so. I enclose a paper received this morning Mr Winter (who is again very ill) says that he does not know anything about insuring with Prothero; so please tell me what I am to do and also what it is for. Mr W says that if Cordy is to pay for High Street this cannot be for the Bonded Store in Skinner Street, it is too much. He also told me to ask you to draw up a paper allowing Willie to have £100 out of his £300 he (Willie) owes us about £104 but we agreed that the £100 should stand over in his name, instead of his paying that, and our paying him again therefore Mr Winter wishes to have things put as straight as possible. He is now so weak he can scarcely creep up stairs to bed. We have agreed this morning to take Willie as tenant at £40 for the Bonded stores (to be paid quarterly in advance). With kind love to all hoping soon to hear a better account of Sarah.”
