- Scope and ContentReminds him that interest due on the money ‘you have put out for me’. “…The house above this is to be sold, it has been built about 7 years – the owner is Robert Graham (by his friends, called a ‘sharp clever lawyer’ but _ _ designate him by much harsher terms) so I should not like to anything to say to him on it – but we think the house would suit us, and I should be much obliged if you would write to him. The house (with several has been put up by _ _ more than once, and very few attend the sales, because of his character and as he does not want^need I mean money his properties do not sell cheap – but we have to leave this house, and we believe it will be cheaper to buy (in this street) than to rent where the houses are larger – he has been asking £350 but the adjoining house built at same time & exactly like it, has lately been bought (by private contract) [for] £325 – so I should be glad if you could get this one (No.31) for the same, or as much less, as you can – we cannot find a house (in the part of the town that suits us) under £43 & £45 we shall (if we buy this one) have to spend about £80 in an additional room and conveniences, but even then the interest would not come to so much (besides less taxes) I am told but do not know, that the lease is for 999 years – please find out also what the ground rent is.”
