He and Samuel Hilyard 'had been setting night lines to catch eels'. They were going along Cross Lane at three in the morning to take them up when he saw the sack of barley at the side of the road. He took it and sold it to James Careless. Information of William Nottingham, who found the sack under Cardington bridge and took it to Joseph Barker whose name was on the sack and he gave him a penny piece for it.
