  • Scope and Content
Returning from a neighbouring village he saw a great crowd of women and children outside the Royal Oak. He asked one woman what the noise was about and she replied that they had been ill treating Brown the constable. 'On hearing this, I passed by withoutside the crowd' which almost completely blocked the road. Before reaching home he met Mr John Robinson who asked him what the noise was all about and then asked to borrow his stick, which he accordingly did.
