    Examinations and depositions: Information of Edward Jarvis, servant to Thomas Bates, Offley, Herts.. Idetifies two fowls, one by its leg having been broken by himself by accident about ten months before, his mistress had tied a piece of rag on its leg which was still on it. Informtion of John Foster, gamekeeper to Mr Burroughs of Offley. He went with John Bates and William [P]ates in pursuit of people they suspected of stealing fowls. They caught up with the three prisoners and their two asses at Stopsley. On one of the asses they found a sack in which were nine fowls including the two which they had lost; they were also in the act of selling some soot which they had stolen from the same place.
