Title
Examinations and depositons: Information of Rev. Thomas Gregory, Henlow, clerk. Samuel Ashwell and Richard Trigg came to his house and asked for the keys of the church and permission to ring the bells. He refused them permission so they went to the church and attempted to break open the door with 'an iron crow, and by force and violence did break off part of the door and injured the lock of the said door and by carrying a lighted candle' and fixing it to the door, the door was burnt. Evidence of Robert Tingey, Henlow. He saw Ashwell and Trigg trying to break the door with an iron crow. Thomas Crouch put a lighted candle on the door and left it burning. He heard Ashwell 'damn the door and said he would break it all to pieces unless he could get in'. Evidence of George Tingey jnr., Henlow. Agrees with Robert Tingey. Evidence of Thomas Leggatt, Henlow. With Geoge Tingey jnr. he went to the church and took away the candle from the door. He put out the fire by scraping it with a knife 'by which fire, the church door was burnt through'. Ashwell, Trigg and Crouch acknowledged committing the acts.
