    Burial in the chancel of Shephall, if convenient --- 20 nobles to the poor of Shephall, and money given them by will of father of testator, to be disposed of by executors for their yearly benefit --- poor of Stevenage parish 5 marks --- poor of Aston 40s --- poor of Datchworth 40s --- to mother £50 --- to wife Frances £50, silver basin and half the linen --- to daughter Jane, besides the legacy given her by testator's father's will, £2,000 if she marries Augustine Earle, Esquire, with whom testator has made articles of agreement concerning Marriage Settlement, otherwise but £1,500 --- second son Edmund, all lands and tenements, free and copyhold purchased of Thomas Hanscombe in Holwell and Shillington (reciting surrender to use of will, manor of Ramerick) and legacy of £2,000 --- to youngest daughter Elizabeth £2,000 --- to youngest son lately born and to be named John, £3,000 --- to eldest son George, plate and linen and household stuff not bequeathed before legacies to be paid out of personal estate if possible and any surplus to be divided equally among the younger children, otherwise to be raised out of rents and profits and real estate. --- to eldest sons of two brothers, £10 each --- to friend Mr. John Skinner & Mr. Rause Skinner, £5 each & to Mr. Graves 40s --- to servant Thomas Granger, the tenement with the lands held by William Davis in Arlesey, for life for 40s --- to servant Thomas Knight, the remainder of the money owed by him on a bond --- to servant Mary Clarke, £5 --- 20s each to rest of servants Executors: George & John Nodes, his brothers, and to them £50 each and two best horses Overseers: Brother in Law Sir William Boteler, cousin Mr. Edward Field, kinsman Mr. Thomas Knight & friend Robert Draper of Hitchin.
