Scope and Content
Geoff gone to Germany again last night from Harwich & will return by air from Frankfurt in a week. Newspaper cuttings discussed. ‘I asked Joe if he knew who Peter Simple was but he didn’t, thought perhaps it was sent in by several people. I think they were going to an at home or something given by Lady Dorothy of course they all have to have these things when their husbands are Prime Ministers. I always thought he looked so ‘frightfully superior’ but Joe says, no he’s not really its just his manner. I’m very sorry for Anthony he had worked so hard.’ [Eden resigned on 9/1/57 and MacMillan became PM on 10/1/57]. Hopes Mr Spiers jaw not broken ‘the mud must be pretty awful down the lane.’ Treatment for rheumatism.
