  • Scope and Content
Has asked Joyce about deeds. Joyce recently elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Auntie Flo has died, Geoff an executor. Geoff and Norah coming for the weekend of 20-22nd and Frank and Mary moving in on the 23rd. Olive going to the Ideal Home exhibition. Sorry to miss the lantern talk on Rome at the WI to be given by Miss Westaway (Joyce’s old headmistress). Olive still there ‘I don’t know that she is really looking forward to the new influx, of course it all makes more work – but she is so good, and I’m sure if there is a baby about she will not be able to resist it…’ Joyce spends Sunday mornings gardening. Japonica tree mass of bloom. Hopes dog will turn out OK. ‘What I think of the world situation is best not put into words! A few years ago it was Hitler, Hitler, Hitler & now its Stalin, Stalin, etc. Churchill was quite right when he described him as a wily old fox before the last war. No I have not read that book – perhaps I may borrow it sometime, but I cant have you calling Philip a German – he’s much more a Dane at least I like to think so!’ Might have geese but it don’t pay better than last year will not be a paying proposition. Has bought navy woollen material for a dress ‘it was an awful price 47/3 at 3 yrds that was over £7 + 13 ½ coupons…’’.
