  • Scope and Content
Surprised Marsworth having another new organ. Carpets. Invitation to Potters ‘Marie’s young man, Mr Clift was there – he has a skirt factory at Congleton.’ Potters have started a baby’s clothes factory at Finsbury Park. Marie has done more paintings. Curate coming in June for 5 weeks & to stay if suitable. ‘Miss O asked if we would be willing to take them in, for the 5 weeks & afterwards if they stay let them Scarsdale…’ Bearsdale let on 3 year lease to a Mr Melhuish about 40 married but no children. Ike having the cellar floor done & a WC put in the bathroom & the bath in the next room. They do not want the paddock but Ike has let the keeping to Matthews. Have got hay up except a few loads – ‘there was a fair crop. The last part is in better condition than the first as it was only cut on Monday has had no rain on it only a shower yesterday. Aren’t you glad you have no stamp licking to do…I mean for servant etc. What about Mrs Saunders tho, are you going to pay for her? Mrs Endersby doesn’t like the idea of paying her 3d so I don’t know whether to ignore her or not. I don’t want to get let in for £10 but I certainly shall not pay her share & mine too. I think it is a hateful law, I would far rather pay them the extra 3d a week & let them do the stamp licking, but one really has to pay more & yet they have less to take which makes bad feeling both ways…’
