  • Scope and Content
‘Its all Election everywhere & we are very much in it having 4 candidates which means a separate waste paper basket is required to put all their “literature” in. Ike is taking no part this time, he’s sort of between the devil & the deep sea – both Wells & Kellaway are trying to draw him into their meshes for car lending etc so he steers clear of both, and after refusing to lend it to either he had a letter from each yesterday telling him where to report as he had “kindly promised use of it”. Its most amusing the way Lloyd George & Birkenhead are patting each other & their own backs, tho I must say I do think that L G is a wonderful man & that nobody else could have done what he did during the war – no doubt I shall be cut off with the proverbial shilling for saying so – as I do not think they admire him at all at Puttenham! Still I think perhaps we do want a little “tranquillity” now…’ Admires Molly’s drawing room. Good run home ‘not at all cold as we were closed in, it makes a world of difference’. Peacock’s auctioneers have poultry sales. Joyce has turned her hair up to see how it feels. ‘Her great ambition I believe is to be head of the school before she leaves, she is in 5A now & will be in the 6th next year all being well – also she wants to be Editor of the Aquila – their school magazine she seems to have a bent that way’ getting a good deal like Edith used to be, painfully shy. Maid wants a daily place sorry to lose her best all round one has had for a long time.
