- Scope and ContentHappy returns for her birthday. Difficult to understand Dad ‘he must get very tired of sitting…nice that he can get out again it does seem dreadful to have to come to that state poor old dear.’ Went to London on Tuesday took George for his first visit. ‘Ike showed him round while I went to Selfridges, I did not buy much, only some household things…think I prefer Barkers. Then I met Ike & George & we went to a show at the RHS hall Mr Aish from Dunstable had silver medal for a show of Chrysanths. We had tea there then walked round a bit – had supper at Simpsons in the strand, went to the Savoy & saw ‘Paddy the next best thing’ [play based on book by Gertrude Page ran 1920-1922]… not keen on Selfridges you just spend all your time walking about trying to find yourself. I spect you have had the snow – its about gone now. They all started school today, shall miss Joyce. She & Ro went to a children’s dance at Sandy on Monday…Do you remember you came down on your birthday last year? & said you shouldn’t be so long before you came again!’
