Scope and Content
‘My dear Bessie
I thought to have written on the day after I arrived home but Elsie told me she had sent to you already and so I have put it off until now. I enjoyed my visit to Willington very much, and look back as I knew I should with very pleasant recollection of the last day I was with you gathering the peaches etc. I hope you are all well, baby better.
I think it is likely that the wheat deal may turn out well as it gone up in price. I heard that directly I arrived home, that it was 42/s a qr so Ike is to be congratulated but it is a sad business that is the cause of it. The Stock exchange is closed as of course you know for two days Ernest was terribly upset by the worry of it so that I am glad he has not had to go for a few days. Today is Tring show. Tom, Edward & Percy are gone also Edith, not Elsie or Dad. It is not very nice weather nor has it been lately.
We have not begun cutting corn but shall now soon has finished the hay. When can Willie come I fancy Elsie will write to you soon but I don’t quite know her intentions. I hope the weather will soon be more settled. Are you thinking of going to the sea, or not. I wish you could have sent them all to us, failing that if I were a bit younger, I know we might manage alright, and I should like it.
Our maid has got a place at Amersham as Cook General is to take 20£. I never saw anything like it and what will be I know not.
Have just heard that Tring Show was stopped. Jo Meads horse was taken, he was riding on in the Park, and sent away and a lot of Kidston’s and others. Where will it end? Shall hope to see Willie soon, but Elsie will write I think. The asters are still good they revived well and I met with such kind people coming home to help me after your own goodness so as very pleasant, Thank you all for it Your loving mother love to all.’
