    The documents in this collection are connected to the property purchases of John Richard Vickers, a builder. Born in Leighton Buzzard, the son of John Vickers, a horsedealer, and Sarsh his wife, in 1851 John is a joiner. He married Ann [Cleaver?] from Harlington and they had three daughters: Ann Mria, Sarah Emily and Mary Jane, and one son, Sirett Richard. By the end of the 1850s J R Vickers was a builder who was buying building plots in Dunstable. Then on the 1st November 1870 he dies aged 47. The Leighton Buzzard Observer said that he went to the poll and recorded his vote in the Dunstable Borough election, went home didn't feel well and had a fit from which he didn't recover. He was apparently subject to fits. The Luton Times in reporting his death described him as generally known and respected. J R's wife did in 1906. His daughters Ann and Mary didn't marry and died in 1942 and 1912 respectively. Daughter Sarah married master marriner William Wynn Kerl in 1881 and died in 1910. Sirett moved to Yorkshire where he married in 1892. He and his wife had five children (two died in infancy), three were still living in 1911. In 1901 May aged 2 and Marjorie aged 4 were visitors at a wheelwrights house in York while their 6 year old brother Eric was with his grandmother, Ann Vickers, in Dunstable, In 1911 Eric is with his father in York serving as his apprentice.

    Found during the clearance of the depositor's property. Depositor was born in Dunstable and her maternal grandfather, George Jones, was founder of the Leighton Buzzard Brick Company, dealing in sharp builders' sand. Her father was a director of that company. The documents passed down through the family and it is thought that this is due to being related to the John Richard Vickers mentioned in the documents but this has not been confirmed.
