  • Scope and Content
Hopes Minnie with Bessie. Going to have Harrold tonight as Percy and Daisy going to a whist drive at Marston. Elsie expects Mrs Fowler[?] to tea, she has been to Aylesbury this morning for meet of the foxhounds in the square with Mrs and Miss Turner and Logan driving. Wishes she could be of use to Bessie but ‘cannot even knit stockings though I could mend them if I was nearer, which is an old Lady’s business’. Has written little letter to Georgie but doesn’t know if Elsie posted it. Elsie and Tom seem to be having a lot of outings. Glad to hear black cow did so well. ‘I fancy there is very little dependence on Charles and his wills. I think all are agreed on that, that is those few concerned or supposed to be concerned. He is thinking of getting a housekeeper, which will most likely end in a wife I should think. Mrs Ted is helping to get up this Whist drive, she likes to be doing something. There seems a new generation taking the place of the Old now and of course it must be so, I think it best. Horace Newman will be going back before long they have had rather stormy times I hear amongst them it was a pity to come with 3 little children for the wife…’
