Scope and Content
Sad news – uncle John failing for some time ‘he passed away on Wednesday morning, but we thought it better to let you have Christmas pass without hearing of it or I should have written a long letter before. Charles & John were both with him but I am sorry to say John junr was taken on Christmas Day in the Farm yard just as Netta was and is not expected to live.’ Thanks for sending the piano. Pleased to hear Willie had a good report thought the watch might be useful to him now he goes to school. Sorry about Alice hopes she will be able to return to Bessie soon. Uncle Henry means to come on Monday, all being well, to Funeral…Horace home. Mrs Philps has broken her leg at the Turners. Sorry forgot Rowland’s toys. Pleased with flowers and holly on Christmas Day.
Note ‘since writing have heard that John (Marston) passed away about 4 o’clock yesterday 26th. Its so sad just at Christmas time too.’
