  • Title
Letter from Anne Florence Robinson to Amabel, to Countess de Grey. Lord Mahon [Philip Henry Stanhope, later 5th Earl Stanhope] dined the other day; the talk turned to fairy tales and the writer said she had inherited Lady de Grey’s fondness for them. He asked if Lady de Grey had read ‘La Reine Fantasque’ [by Jean-Jacques Rousseau]. The writer declared that Lady de Grey had read everything ever published, and bet half a crown that she had read it. Having discovered by exchange of letters that Lady de Grey had not read the book, was obliged to send Lord Mahon half a crown. He has sent Lady de Grey the book to borrow.
