Payment for overtime work would not be authorised under any circumstances Minutes of Site Meeting 9 April 1968; G N Haden & Company's work in the Administration Block 'practically completed'; mentions 'part of the Communal Block is required mid-May for examinations and the Youth Employment Section of the Administration Block is required as soon as possible' Minutes of Site Meeting 18 June 1968; the Youth Employment section of the Administration Block had now been taken over; fitted furniture to the four storey block will be installed before the end of August Minutes of Site Meeting 26 June 1968; refers to meeting of 2 April 1968 where Mr McLaren, Fixing Manager of S Warner & Son had stated all the curtain walling would be complete by 16 April 1968. This date has now been overrun by 10 weeks; No guarantee had been produced 'A five year comprehensive written guarantee is urgently required and approval of the curtain walling will not be given until this guarantee, acceptable to all parties, is submitted and agreed'; concern that Warner's had sent representatives who were not in a position to discuss any financial aspects of the contract; Mr White, Deputy County Architect, reaffirmed his extreme dissatisfaction at the prolonged completion date and quality of the windows. He will have serious doubts on employing Messrs Warners in the future. Serious delays and consequent loss have been caused to the main contractors, the repurcussions of which could be very far reaching indeed Minutes of Site Meeting 9 July 1968 Minutes of Site Meeting 6 August 1968; extractor system in the Housecraft Room does not apppear to be functioning correctly Letter from A G Ward, Managing Director of J M Hill & Sons (Ampthill) Ltd; 'It is with regret that we must ask for an extension of contract period, due to the serious over running of time on this project'; completion date should have been 5 August 1968 but very unlikely to be completely finished until early November; states work completed so far, estimated at 80 % of the contract, with the intention to complete kitchen and cafeteria by 16 September 1968: Workshop Block 14 September 1967 Communal Block 28 May, 9 July 1968 Administration Block 28 May, 6 August 1968 'The largest contributory factor to this delay is the manner in which Messrs S Warner have carried out their contract ...They ultimately completed on 4 July, a matter of some 17 weeks overdue' Minutes of Site Meeting 20 August 1968; mentions Mr Fretwell (of G M Haden & Sons Limited) requested details for a spigot for the convector in the false ceiling of the kitchen. It was agreed that this should be extended in timber and lined in soft asbestos Minutes of Site Meeting 10 September 1968; various items to complete and some items still to be delivered; Mr Smith of the County Architect's Department having inspected the fitted furniture supplied and fixed by T E Neville reported that a horizontal formica joint to plan drawers (Pre Nursing Unit) as being unacceptable, also that in odd places veneers were non-matching and certain doors were not fitted accurately
