  • Scope and Content
Received a letter from Elizabeth Carew with details of the event 'Harriet ... grew nervous as the day approached, but the arrival of Sir Charles Pole with his daughter turned her thoughts and they say she was in general as well as could have been expected for she is a very nervous person upon al occasions.' The couple were to stay two or three days in Sydenham before going to Down Ampney. Sir Charles Pole was to leave Antony today and 'poor Jemima' [Jemima Pole-Carew, mother of the bride] is to meet them at Bath and go with them to Aldenham. She then goes to London on her way to Blackheath to visit the Thomas Cocks's. Mrs [Charlotte Jemima] Colleton went to Weymouth last Wednesday on her way to Antony. There she found Lady Somers and Co. all excited as the Regent was close off shore. The Lancers were on the parade and their band playing. Mrs Carew had determined to go to Antony from Weymouth by water, and got a small vessel to take her and family. As the wind was propitious she expected it would be delightful, but it seems it was not so, as none wish to repeat the expedition, having had to pass an uncomfortable night in a dirty cabin. Writer has taken to a new way of drawing - copying in pencil slightly finished in sepia. Amused by Joshua Reynolds memoirs by Northcote, but finds the quarto size of the book inconvenient.
