Letter from Anne Barker, sent from Curzon Street, to Amabel Hume-Campbell, Lady Polwarth. Hears that Lady Polwarth has decided to winter at Wrest. Writer has been suffering from a cold. Has reveived a letter from Madame De Laval. Writer left Kew last Monday - Mrs [Elizabeth] Lake followed on Wednesday after. Mention of 'future daughter' - only wait now for the lawyers to end things. Dowager Lady Westmorland is to marry a Colonel Woodford [Lady Susan Fane, widow of John Fane, 9th Earl of Westmorland, married Col. John Woodford in December 1778]. 'Mr Frederick, the little pale son of Sir John is married.' 'The Dowager Lady Lothain is dyeing, but not fast. She has lost her understanding ... but her doctors think may languish some time longer.'[Lady Caroline Kerr, widow of William Henry Kerr, 4th Marquess of Lothian, died November 1778]. Death of the only son of Mr & Mrs Collins of Tring. He was nine years old, and carried off very suddenly by a terrible sore throat and putrid fever. Francis [son] is in Town and will stay until his brother is married.
