  • Scope and Content
The Patersons have not gone to Arran as Lady Anne was afraid for crossing the water. Have gone to Baledmund, where there is very good whey. Mrs Scott has been brought to bed of a boy, and Mrs Wauchope has also had a son. Lord Clarendon and family have gone to London to present young Miss Harris. 'The bride and bridegroom had been with them for some days. There was a ridiculous accident attended their wedding; the company were all assembled at Sir Gilbert Elliotts, when the Arch Bishop had entirely forgot to sign the special licence, which didn't arrive till eleven at night. The clergyman offered to run the risk of marrying them before it arrived, but neither her own brother or Mr Eden would allow it.' [Possibly refers to marriage of Sir Gilbert Elliott and Anna Maria Amyand]. Lord Marchmont still complains of the confusion in his head.
