    Alfred Bamford Stevens: paid James Manton of Ampthill 16s 21/2d for 9 cwt of bones which Manton said he had delivered. In the afternoon of the following day James Manton's brother Thomas was paid 7s 71/2d for 4 cwt of bones. The same evening Ann [Manton?], sister of James and Thomas, demanded payment for 8cwt of bones delivered by her brothers. Suspecting something wrong he went "down the yard" where the men told him that in fact no bones had been brought in that day. Further information of Stevens: before he paid James and Thomas Manton, Joseph Hedge, who was employed "confidentially by Mr May" had informed him that the quantities had been delivered. Hedge had now absconded. Information of Charles May, quaker: sees his heap of bones every day, and is sure no addition was made to them. The prisoners sid they brought the bones in two carts drawn by ponies. Information of Jonathan Barker: works in May's yard [remainder of deposition at QSR1830/525].
