Constance was the daughter of Revd Richard Isherwood, rector of Meppershall from 1900-1936, and his wife Emilie (see obituary Beds Standard 24/11/1916 copy in this file). She had a brother, Cyril (later vicar of Stoke Row, Oxfordshire), and two sisters - Grace and Kitty (for details of Kitty's activities while in Bedfordshire see the letter by her brother in the Stoke Row News December 1973 in this file) Constance was a writer and wrote a substantial guide to St Mary's church, Luton. In 1904 she became the president of the Robert Bloomfield Society. In 1912 Constance married William MacFarlane and shortly after the birth of their son, Cyril, the family moved to Canada but returned to England at the start of World War One. Constance and William adopted a daughter, Fiona and the correspondence in this file is mainly from one of Fiona's children.
