  • Scope and Content
Ned Barker left on Sunday, this being his week of staying on board. Hope to visit him in his cabin if weather permits. Frank is still staying, and the writer's sister is expected in town tomorrow. Was well entertained last week at 2 plays. The fashionable amusement at present is a puppet show; the writer has not seen it - it is the same price as a play. Admiral Holburn and family dined on Sunday, and on Tuesday dined at Lord Chesterfields. Greatly alarmed about the distemper among the horned cattle having spread into four parishes -the council has met about it, and the writer hopes their orders will be strictly obeyed. It is thought to have been carried to Scotland by infected hay from Holland, which is ordered to be thrown overboard.
