Writer last week crossed the Severn and went to visit the Lady Bathhursts at Cheltenham; unfortunately they had left the place a few days before. Called on Mrs William Buckle on the return journey, where was a lady who is now with the writer with the name of Kerry - authoress of some sermons and a work titled Letters on Prejudice.

Event which has caused much pain: the marriage of the widowed Mrs Charlotte Jermima Colleton to a Frenchman [Alphonse Joseph Marie de morel Champemont]. 'Who or what he is, we know not.' There were 2 Dowdeswells in India; one of them had 6 children of his own, and having married a widow who had one daughter by a former husband chose to have this girl called Dowdeswell, though she had no right to the name.
