- Admin/biog historyThe lease for Priory Marina was taken over by Harry Kitchener Marine Ltd. on 19 October 1978, but on 24 July 1992 the company went into receivership. Chartered Accountants Grant Thornton of Bedford were appointed as receivers and they allowed the company to continue to trade in order to sell the business as a going concern. In July 1993 the lease was purchased by Sawley Marina Ltd. of Nottingham who had plans to expand and develop the site. The new company was to be known as Priory Marina Ltd. In January 2000 a 99 year lease was purchased by British Waterways Board who continue to operate Priory Marina in 2019, now under the name British Waterways Marinas Ltd. In 2001 major refurbishment commenced works to provide 200 high quality berths and a new facility block with showers, toilets, laundry facilities with dedicated disabled units. There were also plans to increase the number of moorings by 50 berths.
