  • Scope and Content
Requests Lady de Grey arrange to have the etchings framed and glazed as a present for Mr Melville. He has acted in the most friendly manner and been indefatigable in making the house and place comfortable. Forthampton cottage is rather like a hospital with the 2 youngest children having measles and the cook just recovering from scarlet fever. Mrs Buckle is still in a languishing state, though a little better. She is too weak to walk across the room and complains of constant pain in her side. Formentations and leeches are her cheif remedies. Have lost the Broomes as neighbours - out on a visit of some days. Reference to Comtess de Hompesch. 'Alas the poor Colletons! Such a picture of a cross sick husband and dutiful wife I have not read of [for] some time, but indeed I have always thought her a most amicable woman.' Awaits a letter from Agneta Yorke to hear of Lady St German [Caroline Eliot] with respect to Dr. Crofts.
