- Scope and ContentBlore will bring his bill for the monument to Lady Lucas, with the addition of tha mason's expenses. Lady Lucas is requested to forward it to Messrs Biddulph & Cocks bankers for payment. Celebrations for the golden jubilee of George III: at Tewkesbury five oxen were killed and a pound of meat given to each person in each poor family, distributed to the number of above three thousand. Drink was likewise given in the same proportion. There was a dinner in the town hall for the gentlemen and a ball at night for the ladies. Medals were struck for the occasion and a silver one was sent to the writer by the banker of the borough of trustees. The new Lord Coventry [George William Coventry, 7th Earl of Coventry] with his family honour Tewkesbury entertainments with their presence. Comments on current affairs. Learns from son Philip that the donations on the jubilee at Mile End, Horkesley etc. were more bountiful than at Tewkesbury, each person receiving near double the quantity of meat etc. Philip brought to the writer a sermon said to be the best preached in London on the occasion of the jubilee - by Rev. John Hewlett at the Foundling Hospital. Death of John George Monson, 4th Baron Monson.
