- Scope and ContentUnderstands that Lord Eliot and his son gave the bride [Caroline Yorke] a diamond hoop ring; Lady Hardwicke gave a set of ware dishes and plates for the table, Lord Hardwicke some plate, and nephew Joseph gave Devonshire lace. Mention of the Gloucester music meeting and tales of the Duke of Norfolk 'which would not exactly be the thing for one lady to detail to another on paper.' 'The tour the great people took altogether to Lord Maldens, Piercefield and Monmouth, proved ...very delightful.' [It seems the Duke of Gloucester was in the party]. Description of Lord & Lady Maldon's conservatory, (60 feet long), and visit to Piercefield House, owned by George Smith. Son Charles went to some fine parties at Cheltenham by means of his acquaintence with Mr Hatsel; he met the Duchess of Gordon and her daughters, Lord Mountmorris and Lady Archer. Mention of current affairs and the Spaniards barbarity to Captain Macdonald.
