  • Scope and Content
A handwritten letter from R P S Waddy (former Rector of St Andrew's, Ampthill) from an address in Reading to Honora Grimmer (the letter is written on headed paper from Queen Anne's School, Caversham, Reading where Pat Stacy Waddy is teaching but the school name has been crossed through and replaced with 2 Henley Road): "Dear Nora, No, we don't move to Ditchingham until mid-August: I have one more term here, making 5 1/2 years in all. Then our address will be St. Fursey, Ditchingham, Bungay, Suffolk. Although we are in Norfolk and come under the Bishop of Norwich. It is a delightful set-up; a modern house of the right size, in a 'compound' (that's the missionary word) which reminds me of Revelation 21 and the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven. We have been up there this week, measuring curtains and carpets, and I met the warden (a Mirfield monk who comes down regularly). There is plenty to be done, helping the resident sub-warden, who is my 'rector' so to speak; but as I get older I can (I hope!) do less, and it's a lively place with all its schools and activities - and a cottage hospital - and two centres of social work in Norwich 15 miles away. To our great delight, Christopher is moving to Norfolk too, to be a partner in a new merchant bank set-up, so we shall have him within hail. Meanwhile, Judith, (now Stacy Marking) has produced our first grandchild, a daughter as red as she was at the same age; so everything is happening at once and for the best. All good wishes - I hope it was a happy Easter at Ampthill. Yours sincerely, Pat Stacy Waddy"
